Auld Lang Syne

Another year, another decade. How time flies. ITI enters our 11th year and the science of infrared its 211th.

Auld Lang Syne -- according to Wikipedia: The song's Scottish title may be translated into English literally as "old long since", or more idiomatically, "long long ago",[3] "days gone by" or "old times". Consequently "For auld lang syne", as it appears in the first line of the chorus, is loosely translated as "for old times sake".

For thermography 'for old times sake' is also appropriate -  The science and use of Thermography has certainly been around for some time. Many believe it to be a "new technology', however it is well established and has been part of scientific investigation since the 1800 experiment by Hershel. Herschel discovered the existence of infrared light by passing sunlight through a glass prism. He noticed that the temperature increased from the blue to the red part of the visible spectrum. He then placed a thermometer just beyond the red part of the spectrum in a region where there was no visible light and found that the temperature was even higher! Herschel realized that there must be another type of light beyond the red, which we cannot see. This type of light became known as infrared.(http://coolcosmos.ipac.caltech.edu/cosmic_classroom/classroom_activities/herschel_experiment2.html)

Others belief that thermography (a picture of temperature or infrared energy) is "old technology" and therefore no longer applicable. However,  the science of Infrared has continued to advance, as has most forms of energy utilization and investigation. http://www.spitzer.caltech.edu/video-audio/145-ask_ir-Infrared-More-Than-Your-Eyes-Can-See?autoplay=true&limit=20
The use of infrared, however, is not commonplace in medical practice. The regretful aspect of this ignorance (lack of educated understanding) is that infrared offers an intriguing look at the body's 'information system'.  The information system controlled by the central nervous system through the automonics -- sympathetic and parasympathetic nerve systems  to be more specific. A connection between our internal and external - and a schematic of that function.

Through our demands for 'faster and better', we have given the medical community an excuse to forgo the essential investigation into what the body is trying to say.  We have turned 'signs and symptoms' into diseases.  Rather than to investigate the origin or cause of the dis-ease by examining the schematic provided by our body, we 'want a pill to fix it' and make it all "OK". Take away the symptom, take away the signal -- not the disease.  So the underlying cause will still exist and the body will continue to draw your attention to ever-changing or ever increasing signals to say "STOP", I'm not well and I want you to know WHY.

My wish for you this coming year is that you "STOP" and determine where you want your wellness level to be.  Do you wish to continue on the path to immediate gratification, ignoring the underlying problem? Or will you take responsibility for your health?  Will you look deeper for meaning in the signs / symbols / symptoms and work to correct the entire system or will you ignore the only mechanism that communicates our internal milieu with our outer -- an ever resonating energy field of information?

May old times NOT be forgotten - because too much information will be lost. We must embrace our history as well as our future. Otherwise too much truth will be discarded and we will need to relearn the lessons again. Embrace the use of the 'original information system' and let it guide you to a better understanding and utilization of the new.

Best wishes for the coming year --- and better yet -- may you be 'a picture of health'!
